The Mission of the Grass Valley Fire Department is to protect life, property, and the environment by providing high-quality Emergency Services, Fire Prevention, and Public Education to the Grass Valley Community in a caring, professional, and efficient manner.

In 2018 the Nevada City Fire Department and the Grass Valley Fire Department entered a Shared Administration pilot program; following its success the two agencies fully merged in 2020, with Nevada City contracting for services through Grass Valley.
